Issue #1: April 14, 2025
Hi there,
Welcome to the premiere issue of "Cyger Selects."
As you may know, my "Cyger Says" email newsletter goes out Thursdays and primarily includes my thoughts on domain names and development.
But I spend way too much time scrolling 𝕏 and realize it's easy to miss something important.
So that's the point of this newsletter:
I select only the posts I think are most useful, relevant, and interesting from other people and present them in a digest format for you to easily skim.
You'll receive it every Monday morning at 5AM Pacific.
If you've seen these posts already, great — move on. If they're new to you, even better.
My goal is to help you reduce scroll time, discover valuable content, and brighten your day.
Have a great week,
Mike
P.S. Have feedback? Did I miss something good? Just hit reply.
P.P.S. Found this newsletter useful? Consider reposting this. 🙏

Invest wisely, flip smartly, and grow steadily.💰
You don’t need thousands of dollars to get started in domain investing. What you need is a focused mindset, a smart plan, and the discipline to scale steadily.
Here's how to do it step by step 👇
1. Start with a Small Budget
You can start with as little as $50–$200. Focus on hand-registered names or closeouts on GoDaddy, Dynadot, and Namecheap.
Look for:
- Short and pronounceable names
- Brandable keywords
- Geo + service combos (e.g., NewyorkDentist .com)
- Trends in niches like AI, crypto, health, or SaaS
The goal here is learning, not hitting a jackpot.
----------------
2. Learn by Doing
Start with 5–10 domains and track:
- Which ones get type-in traffic.
- Which ones get inquiries (via landing pages).
- What kind of names get attention on marketplaces.
Read domaining forums like NamePros. Follow blogs like domainnamewire, domainsherpa etc. Analyze sold listings on marketplaces like GoDaddy Auctions, Afternic, Dynadot, Namecheap, etc.
----------------
3. Flip Early Through Outbound
Don’t wait for buyers to come to you. Send outbound emails to potential end-users (startups, small businesses, agencies) who could benefit from your domain.
- Use tools like Hunter .io to find contacts.
- Keep emails short and professional.
- Price reasonably in the $99-$500 range at first.
- Additionally, use social media to contact if available.
These early flips build your confidence and fund better acquisitions.
----------------
4. Reinvest Profits into Better Domains
Once you flip a few names, don’t spend it all on random new hand-regs.
Instead:
- Buy expired domains with age, backlinks, or branding potential
- Enter low-competition auctions (like on Dynadot)
- Build a tiered portfolio - for quick flips & long holds
- Think of each reinvestment as a portfolio upgrade.
(
----------------
5. Improve Portfolio Quality Over Time
As you gain experience, shift from quantity to quality. Replace weak or speculative names with stronger assets like:
- One-word brandables
- Aged .coms
- Exact match keywords (EMDs) with commercial intent
- Domains with short length and high recall
Eventually, owning 50 strong domains is better than 500 random ones.
----------------
6. Use Tools to Save Time and Spot Deals
Tools help you scale without wasting hours. For example:
- Domain360 - tracks auctions, filters high-value names, and shows closeouts across marketplaces.
- NameBio - research past sales and trends.
- DotDB - find demand of the SLD / TLD.
- ChatGPT - organize and understand domains better.
Use tech as your assistant - not your replacement.
----------------
7. Build Relationships and Reputation
Domaining is a business of trust. Start by:
- Connecting with domainers on Twitter, LinkedIn, and forums
- Asking questions and helping others
- Being honest in negotiations and deals
People remember who’s respectful, transparent, and reliable. Your network will bring you deals and buyers over time.
----------------
8. Repeat, Scale, Refine
Every cycle - buy → flip → reinvest - should take you to a better place:
- Higher-value names
- More confidence in outbound
- Smarter decision-making
- Long-term asset building
Eventually, you’ll go from flipping $50 names to holding and selling $5,000+ domains - consistently.
----------------
Domaining isn’t about luck. It’s about learning, testing, and scaling up with purpose.
Start small, stay sharp, and you’ll be surprised how far it can go.
