Finally.

Yes, if I search for "Nerve" in a domain name search engine, you can bet I'm wanting to buy the single word and I'm willing to consider multiple extensions.

Now if we can just get @GoDaddy to do the same thing.

Very bold question, do you do outbound?

Several years ago our sister company tried setting up an office in India to do outbound, didn't work out though. We don't have enough high-quality names, and it doesn't work at large scale trying to pitch low to mid-tier names. Small portfolios should all be doing outbound.

There's a lot of talk about outbounding domain names today.

Most proponents claim that it allows you to take control of your destiny, rather than being beholden to a third-party marketplace.

While true, it takes a certain type of domain name to do outbounding successfully.

And it requires skill, persistence, and follow-through.

We've tested price endings like 95 and 99 across a large dataset and found no meaningful difference in STR. Interestingly, more "precise" prices like $3246 sometimes perform better, though that could be anecdotal - we haven't tested it at scale.

That said, broader psychological thresholds like $5K, $10K, $25K, and $50K do have a meaningful impact. Some buyers have card limits, others filter listings below round numbers, and in many cases, there's a fixed budget cap set by procurement. Always better to price at $9,995 rather than $10,100.

Obviously my dataset is much smaller but out of 2K domains I found out that pricing a domain at $9,950 is better than $9,995 because in some marketplaces a $12-$20 .com renewal fee is added, so $9,995 + $12-$20 crosses the $10K mark that can be a difficult pill to swallow.

What David is suggesting is smart.

I sell a lot of domains through @GoDaddy. And their process is to lock in the customer for another year, hopefully, so they tack on another year's renewal fee.

For me, with my DDC membership, it's just another $12 or so with tax. But for a regular person it might be $21.99 plus tax.

So giving the TOTAL PRICE some breathing room to be below a major financial bar like $5,000 or $10,000 is a good idea.
